NDPP to review decision to drop charges against Kodwa

JOHANNESBURG – The National Prosecuting Authority’s office is set to review the decision to drop corruption charges against Zizi Kodwa and his co-accused.

This follows the decision by the South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions, which saw all charges against the accused dropped.

Former minister and businessman Jehan Mackay were accused of corruption and violating the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Act.

This after they were allegedly involved in paying bribes worth more than R1.7 million.

Charges against them were dropped following statements made by both Kodwa and Mackay, but in a statement issued on Friday afternoon, the NPA says it received a letter from the Hawks asking the office for a review.

The charges against Kodwa allegedly arise from an investigation into a 2015 State Information Technology Agency tender.

Meanwhile, the ANC has welcomed the decision to drop corruption charges against Kodwa.

The ANC has praised Kodwa for resigning in June to allow the court process to unfold.

In a statement, the party also reiterates its support for fair and transparent judicial processes.
