Suspect pleads guilty in death of Kearney man

OMAHA, Neb. (KSNB) – A plea deal has been reached in the death of a Kearney man last year.

Cameron Rogers25, pleaded guilty in Sarpy County District Court to involuntary manslaughter and removing/concealing/abandoning a dead human body, both felony charges.

As part of a plea agreement, charges of first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence were dismissed with prejudice. That means those charges cannot be filed again.

Rogers was arrested in April 2023 for tampering with evidence in connection with the death of Patrick Weber, 56, of Kearney.

According to the arrest affidavit, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of human remains on March 13, 2023, in the area of 66th Street and Rainwood Road.

An autopsy confirmed the body matched Weber, who was reported missing to Kearney police on March 5, 2023.

A day later, a license plate reader photographed Weber’s car near an apartment complex near 48th Street and Giles Road in Bellevue.

Kearney Police were contacted and Bellevue Police were advised not to tow the car.

Investigators obtained financial records, where a bank statement indicated one attempted transaction with Cash App, as well as two attempted transactions with Instacart on March 2 and March 11. Those attempts totaled $437.79.

Subpoenas were issued to both Cash App and Instacart, where investigators discovered accounts were created with Weber’s information, as well as information related to the address where Weber’s vehicle was found.

Court records revealed that the IP address belonged to Rogers.

Investigators then executed a search warrant at the Bellevue apartment on April 13, 2023. The affidavit reveals that items belonging to Weber were located inside, including his cell phone and credit card. Authorities also found a small bag of methamphetamine.

Rogers was arrested for controlled substance and tampering with evidence, but charges were later added.

Rogers’ sentencing is set for December 12 at 2 pm in Sarpy County District Court.
