West Fargo man accused of embezzling $2.7 million from Fargo construction company

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Daniel Lindgren, 29, of West Fargo, has been charged with felony theft, in a case that alleges he stole more than $2.7 million from a Fargo construction company.

Court documents say that on Oct. 26, Fargo officials were called to Shorestone Development to take a fraud report. The owner, Mark Payne, reported that Lindgren, the company’s chief operating officer, had been embezzling a large amount of money from the company over 3 years. Court records say Lindgren had access to five business bank accounts, including Payne’s personal bank accounts.

In the report made to police, Payne said Bell Bank alerted him to fraudulent activity on one of the business accounts. On October 18, Payne and Lindgren met in person with a Bell Bank representative, who believed Lindgren was embezzling money from the account. Court documents indicate that Bremer Bank also accused Lindgren of embezzling a significant amount of money.

A review of Bremer Bank bank statements from May 31, 2022 to September 30, 2024 found that of 345 business checks, 262 of them were issued to Daniel Lindgren for a total of $2,716,180.50.

The Payne family says they are still working with other banking institutions regarding the other business accounts, to see if there has been fraudulent activity on those accounts as well. Court documents say he believed Lindgren’s grand total of embezzlement would continue to grow.
