After seeing the video for himself, another very concerned neighbor, Stephan Sinclair, took matters into his own hands and posted the video on Nextdoor, a social media platform meant to connect neighbors.

“I saw that guy’s arm go back and I had to look away,” Sinclair said. “The dog was in imminent danger of being killed or seriously injured.”

The next morning, Seattle City Councilwoman Joy Hollingsworth saw the horrifying video and decided to take action.

Familiar with the location, Hollingsworth arrived at the alleged abuser’s apartment around 8 a.m., leaned outside and refused to leave until the dog was in her possession.

“She said, ‘I’m not leaving until I have that dog in my arms,'” Sinclair explained as she received dozens of messages about the terrifying Nextdoor post, including from the city councilman.

The next morning, Seattle City Councilwoman Joy Hollingsworth (pictured) saw the horrifying clip and decided to take action.

Building management and police would eventually intervene, arresting the abuser, an unidentified 19-year-old man, while removing the dog from the apartment and into Hollingsworth's compassionate hands.

Outside, a crowd had formed in solidarity with the injured puppy, applauding when police were able to remove the innocent puppy safely.

“Everyone applauded when she arrived,” Sinclair said. ‘A dog was saved. You know, in less than a day, 24 hours, just because we can communicate so quickly.’

The alleged abuser now faces animal cruelty charges, police reports reveal.

Sinclair recalled that this is one of the few cases of animal abuse said to have occurred inside the building, which is now rented by the King County Homeless Authority.
