Apalachee High Shooting: Colt Gray Investigative Subpoenas Revealed

Four subpoenas in the trial of Colt Gray, the teenager accused of killing four people at Apalachee High School, have been revealed in new court documents. Three of them were turned over to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources in September and offer new insights into what kind of evidence investigators are using to build their case against the teen and his father.

According to court documents filed Tuesday in Barrow County Superior Court, prosecutors are seeking DNR records about Gray’s visits to three gun ranges: the Big Lazer Creek Gun Range in Talbot County, the Clybel in Mansfield and the Wilson Shoals Shooting Range in Banks County. .

The subpoenas ask the DNR to produce “log sheets, copies of license information, payment information, surveillance footage and other records” between the beginning of the year and Sept. 4, when Gray was accused of opening fire inside the tall building. school.

A separate subpoena was also served on Amazon to obtain customer information, payment information and purchase history. Prosecutors are particularly interested in two addresses: one in Jefferson and another in Bethlehem, where Gray was allegedly housed for the past year.

Although the subpoenas were issued in September, they were only filed with the clerk and made part of the record on Tuesday, as Colt Gray and his father, Colin Gray, are scheduled for arraignment on Nov. 21.

Colt Gray accused of opening fire using a “black AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle” inside the high school’s Room J during second period classes on September 4. Two teachers, Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53, and two students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14 years old.They were killed. Nine other people were injured.

Colt Gray faces 55 chargesincluding four counts of murder, four counts of felony murder, four counts of aggravated assault, 25 counts of aggravated assault and 18 counts of cruelty to children in the first degree.

Colt’s father, Colin Gray, faces 29 charges, including second-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to children, involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment. Prosecutors allege he saw warning signs of his son’s behavior but took no action and even bought the firearm used in the shooting as a Christmas gift.

Last week, The judge in the case, Judge Currie M. Mingledorff II, recused himself from the case.citing his pending retirement and the need for a smooth transition. The case has been reassigned to Judge Sarah Griffie.
