Kansas City man known as ‘The Mayor’ who lived in homeless encampment charged in meth case

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A federal grand jury indicted a man known as “The Mayor” for possession of methamphetamine for distribution near school property and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to a news release from the Office of the Attorney General. Federal Attorney in Kansas City.

Ricky Lee Myers, 62, lived in a small one-bedroom building in the middle of a homeless encampment on a dirt road near East 23rd Street between Vine Street and Highland Avenue.

Federal agents searched his home on Oct. 23 and arrested Myers, according to the news release.

Officers found a gun and a bag containing about 60 grams of methamphetamine.

Myers has previously been convicted of aggravated robbery and distribution of a controlled substance.
