Errington, sole Democratic survivor in Delaware County contested races

MUNCIE, Ind. — With one exception, Tuesday turned out to be a good day for Republicans on the Delaware County ballot.

Ramírez obtained 24,683 votes, 5,225 more than Democrat Dowling.

Republican Stephen Brand, who unseated three-term Delaware County Commissioner James King in his party’s May primary, won the District 1 seat, defeating Democrat Ashley Wright by 6,998 votes.

Delaware County Republicans (incumbents Jessica Piper and Eugene Whitehead, and former council member Bradley Bookout) also claimed the three at-large seats on the Delaware County Council.

Bookout led the council with 21,157 votes, followed by Piper with 20,525 and Whitehead with 16,837.

Democrats Chris Musick and Roger Overbey finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the Indiana House of Representatives election, Democrat Sue Errington gave her party its only victory in a locally contested race, winning a seventh term representing House District 34 over Republican challenger Susan Dillon.

Errington received 12,149 votes, to Dillon’s 9,908.

Two other Indiana House incumbents, Republicans JD Prescott in District 33 and Elizabeth Rowray in District 35, appeared poised for victory Tuesday night.

In Delaware County, Prescott won more than 70 percent of the votes cast in his race with Democrat John Bartlett.

Meanwhile, Rowray received 69.42 percent of the votes cast in her race with Democrat Phil Gift.

Delaware County candidates running unopposed in Tuesday’s election included Republicans Doug Mawhorr, Delaware 3rd Circuit Court Judge; Brad Polk, county treasurer; Tom Borchers, county surveyor; and Sherry Riggin, who won a fourth term as District 2 county commissioner.

In Delaware County, Republican Donald Trump received 56.81 percent of the votes cast in his presidential race with Democrat Kamala Harris.

Voter turnout in Delaware County was 60.83 percent.
