ELECTION RESULTS: Ross County – Scioto Valley Guardian

ROSS COUNTY, Ohio – There were a few close Ross County races across the county, but none that were expected to be a bomb. Republicans were expected to sweep the ticket. Two closely watched races included county recorder, where Kathy Dunn, a Democrat who has held the office for decades, was being challenged by a Republican.

Another race didn’t raise much concern in the county until recently, when it made its mark in the last month: that race was for county commission between Republican James “Oody” Lowe and Democrat Welcome Stoekin. Lowe, the incumbent, faced controversy last month when he approved a controversial law that would enact zoning restrictions for those who live outside the city limits. Countless county residents rebelled and voiced their concerns, with thousands signing an online petition and hundreds showing up to a commission meeting. The measure was eventually rescinded by the commission and Lowe backed down, blaming the media. He later sent a letter apologizing to the people.
