Controversial missed call leaves Bucs fans outraged after close loss to Chiefs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered a crushing loss on Monday Night Football in Week 9, as they fell 30-24 in overtime against the Kansas City Chiefs. They are now 4-5 on the season and are in a dangerous position as they are without their two star receivers.

To make the loss a little more painful for Tampa Bay, the team had a chance to close out the game. After scoring late in the game, Todd Bowles chose a conservative play and scored an extra point to tie the game. They ended up losing in overtime.

The Buccaneers’ unwillingness to go for a game-winning two-point conversion cost them a potential big upset on the road against the Chiefs, which would have seen them eliminate an undefeated team.

Instead, Tampa Bay now has a losing record and is heading in the wrong direction midway through the season.

Not only did Tampa Bay’s head coach make a mistake, but Buccaneers fans are also upset about two missed calls, as @TheSamerAli filed the original complaint, with @saustinperkins pointing out two videos of crucial late missed calls from the referees.

Via @TheSamerAli: “An OBVIOUS FALSE START”

Via @JamesRiedel: “Why don’t the referees call the Chiefs to hold? They are holding almost every play.”

Via @CLARKEANATOR2: “74 for the Chiefs (Jawaan Taylor) false starts on every play and controls 75% of his plays. JUST LOOK AT HIM. HE’S BOLD. Stripes is in cahoots with KC and has been that way for his entire 15 career” .

Via @Ryan31297: “The referees just ignore everything the bosses do. False starts and holding on. They just scored a touchdown on a clear false start.”

Fans are right to be upset, as it certainly seemed like the Chiefs got a lucky break. The Buccaneers have to accept a tough loss. There were factors they could control beyond the missed calls, but it’s still pretty painful for Tampa Bay not to have gotten those calls.
