Bradford Council approves £40m cuts due to lack of funding

“The devil will be in the details,” warned Conservative group leader Councilor Rebecca Poulsen.

One measure he questioned was the recent introduction of parking fees for resident parking permits and municipal car parks.

She said: “It’s not until it actually hits and people see what it actually means that they can understand how it will negatively affect some communities.

“There was nothing in last year’s budget that said parking in Haworth would increase by 200% and that is absolutely decimating businesses.”

Earlier this year, the government agreed to provide the council with a £220m emergency funding boost over the next two years.

However, the report suggested it could need up to £575m over the next five years.

When the BBC asked if Bradford Council would apply for more emergency funding, it said it would not rule it out.
