SAN LEANDRO, Calif. — Two Hayward brothers face murder charges after they allegedly followed a resident to his home and tried to rob him of marijuana and cash, then shot him in the neck after he resisted, records show judicial.

The case is based on layers of evidence: Their mother’s car was used in the crime and cell phone records allegedly place both brothers at the location where the vehicle was later set on fire, for example. But the final piece came after San Leandro police arrested Mauricio Moreno, 28, and Erick Moreno, 19, on suspicion of murder last September.

Placed in a separate interrogation room from his brother, police say Erick Moreno, then 18, broke down. He allegedly told police that he was the driver when they robbed Anderson Choy, 53, at his home in San Leandro, Northern California, last May, and that his brother, Mauricio, was the one who told him. he shot Choy in the neck.

The brothers were following Choy from a marijuana grow house in Hayward that night based on a tip from one of Mauricio’s friends, Erick allegedly told detectives. He said he did not know the man well, but that the informant assured the brothers there would be cannabis and cash in the home, according to court records.
