Ohio State will be missing a key offensive player against Penn State on Saturday

STATE COLLEGE — Penn State coach James Franklin is surely happy with the way his availability report looks ahead of Saturday’s game. Starting quarterback Drew Allar has no designation, while two other starters remain questionable but not ruled out.

Ohio State coach Ryan Day wasn’t so lucky.

Offensive lineman Zen Michalski, a key piece of this week’s game script, will be out for the noon kickoff at Beaver Stadium. He took over at left tackle in place of starter Josh Simmons, who was out with a season-ending injury a few weeks ago. But Michalski was pulled against Nebraska last weekend with an injury of his own. His status was up in the air most of this week.

With Michalski officially out, the Buckeyes could shift typical starting left guard Donovan Jackson to left tackle. This is an unorthodox solution and others could be in play. Ohio State’s offensive line is banged up and thin, opening a way for Penn State’s pass rush to impact the game significantly.

Tight end Will Kacmarek, who recorded five receptions for 58 yards this year, is also out. This is the second week in a row the senior will miss.

No. 3 State of Pennsylvania and No. 4 Ohio State will kick off at noon on FOX at Beaver Stadium.
