Inmate stabbed multiple times at Maury Correctional

GREENE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – An inmate at a maximum security prison in Eastern Carolina was hospitalized this morning after being stabbed.

The Department of Adult Correction says the attack happened around 11:30 a.m. at Maury Correctional Institution.

They say Casey McKoy was stabbed multiple times in the neck and face. The man was alert when he was taken to the hospital, a spokesperson for the prison system told us.

The prison system says the gun has been recovered and charges are pending against Willie Dean, Jr. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the attack.

Both men are in prison for second-degree murder.

McKoy is serving a 17-year sentence from Randolph County, while Dean is in the middle of a 13-year, 4-month sentence from Cumberland County.

Records show both men committed multiple violations involving both inmates and state prison staff.
