Woman had to leave wedding after accidentally receiving invitation

  • She revealed she was left ‘ashamed as hell’
  • People on the Internet have criticized the newlyweds

A woman has recalled the cringe-worthy moment she was forced to leave a wedding after accidentally receiving an invitation.

The unnamed woman took to Reddit to reveal that she was left red-faced after ‘crashing’ a wedding she thought she had been invited to.

In a thread titled Wedding Shaming, the anonymous social media user revealed that she had received an invitation in the mail, to which she replied yes.

However, after putting on her glam and heading to the wedding, she was stopped at the front door.

That’s when she discovered that the newlyweds had sent an electronic invitation to the guests they wanted there, “embarrassing” the woman.

She captioned the post: “I ‘crashed’ a wedding I was invited to.”

‘I received a wedding invitation in the mail. Tell them about my RSVP. Received confirmation for RSVP. I went to the wedding. I wasn’t on the guest list,” she explained at the beginning of the post.

The woman then said she was shocked to find out she wasn’t actually invited because the couple had sent electronic invitations to the guests they wanted at the wedding.

‘I apparently wasn’t actually invited to the wedding and was never told I couldn’t come (they sent electronic invitations after the invitation in the mail, which I didn’t receive and didn’t know about). I feel hurt and ashamed,” she added.

At the end of the post, the Reddit user revealed that she was overwhelmed with emotion over the incident.

“Shame on me for these emotions, and shame on the couple for their poor communication. You just have to cringe,” she explained.

People online flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts as they tried to comfort the woman.

One person said: ‘That’s actually awful and this is one of those cases where I think it would be completely justified to talk about it openly within your social circles. What terrible people.’

Someone else wrote: ‘You don’t have to be ashamed of feeling those emotions! I think most people would feel hurt, but as another commenter said, it’s definitely the bride and groom who should be ashamed.”

“I can’t believe you didn’t know you weren’t invited to a wedding you were invited to. Seems clear as mud to me,” someone else said.

Another user added: ‘Why are you ashamed? The couple should be ashamed of themselves! They sent you an invitation.’

Some people on the Internet speculated that the newlyweds accidentally sent her a paper invitation and only realized their mistake after she signed up, prompting them to then create another form of invitations.
