The final vote count is expected on November 21

Shasta County released new election results Thursday, but the numbers haven’t changed much. During a news conference Thursday afternoon, County Clerk and Registrar of Voters Tom Toller said he expects strong vote totals in about two weeks.

“Last night I did some basic calculations. I didn’t get much sleep and I think we should be pretty prepared for the weekend before Thanksgiving,” Toller said. “We have about a week of margin that we’ve built into the system, so I’m hoping around the 21st or 22nd we’ll have much better numbers, much stronger numbers.”

A majority of county supervisors voted to return Dominion machines to the manufacturer and switch to Hart InterCivic tabulators to process ballots. Toller said about half of the ballots are still not being counted correctly and need to be duplicated before the vote count can be completed.

“I don’t know. The Dominion machines predate my time,” Toller said. “But what I can tell you is that I haven’t heard of any evidence that the type of problem we’re experiencing has involved the Dominion machines, other than “These two anecdotal stories from other states. So I would hesitate to say anything, but the fact is we don’t have the Dominion machines.”

Toller added that one thing he keeps hearing from voters across the spectrum is that they miss being able to put their ballots on the tabulator, hear the noise and watch the counter go up. “They really wonder why we don’t have that capability,” he said.

Another new release of vote totals is expected late Friday afternoon.
