A pedestrian was hit by a freight train in southwest Calgary Thursday night.

The incident occurred near 11th Street SW, between 9th and 10th Avenues, shortly after 6:30 p.m.

Police say a man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

YYC Transportation says the road is closed and asks motorists to use alternative routes.

Police have established those closures while they investigate.

Calgary Transit said Red Line C trains were also delayed and asked passengers for patience.
