A town council and councilor have criticized a proposal to build affordable housing in Cornwall.

Developer L James has applied for permission in principle to build nine affordable homes on land south of Bella Vista on Sandy Lane in Redruth.

But Redruth Borough Council and councilor Connor Donnithorne expressed opposition to the plans due to the impact on the surrounding area.

A planning officer at Cornwall Council, which recommended the application be approved, said the case was “finely balanced”.
