ELMORE COUNTY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) —Idaho State Police (ISP) are conducting an independent investigation into a shooting involving an Elmore County Sheriff’s Office deputy following a single-vehicle crash in Interstate 84.

On the afternoon of November 5, a vehicle on eastbound I84 crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed near mile marker 87. The 36-year-old driver from Idaho became involved in an altercation as the officer attempted to arrest him. As the situation became more intense, the officer fired his firearm several times, causing the driver to be injured.

The driver received emergency medical care, was airlifted to a local hospital and remains in critical condition but is expected to survive.
