OAKLAND – Dana Wrigley Sr. was re-elected Tuesday to the City Council, with resident Kelly Roderick winning the other seat in a three-way race.

Incumbent Laura Tracy was re-elected to the board of directors of Oakland-based Regional School Unit 18 in a three-way race in which she was challenged by two newcomers. Tracy serves as president of the school board.

Wrigley, 83, a retired Central Maine Power Co. employee, was re-elected to the council with 1,680 votes and Roderick garnered 1,734 votes. They defeated political newcomer Shawn Michael Nava, 58, who garnered 1,284 votes.

Roderick, 60, a security guard at the Colby College Museum of Art, will fill a position vacated by Don Borman, who has served on the council for nearly a decade and decided not to run for re-election.

Councilors charge $30 per meeting, of which there are about $29 per year.

Wrigley, who has worked for 18 years at City Hall, said last month who was running for re-election to help the city continue to grow and provide the services residents need at a cost they can afford.

Roderick, who serves on the city’s Budget and Advisory Committee, said he was running to provide representation to all residents and allow their voices to be heard.

In the RSU 18 school board race, Tracy received 1,437 votes, defeating rivals Mary Denise Ferguson, who received 666 votes, and Lori Shieve, who received 1,086.

Tracy is Director of Primary Care at MaineGeneral Medical Center.

RSU 18 enrolls students from Oakland, Sydney, Belgrade, Rome and China, and its board members earn $10 per school board meeting.

Tracy has served on the school board for almost 24 years, about 10 as president. She said last month that his greatest motivation in running for re-election was to continue supporting all students in the district.
