In in the forestThe final song – “Finale: Children Will Listen” – is about the characters reflecting on what they have been through and how they move forward after tragic events. While it seems like the song will end with the lyrics “and happily ever after,” the final line of the song and show is actually Cinderella singing “I Wish.” To me, that choice encourages the audience to reflect on the good and bad that comes with everything these characters wanted. It also puts an exclamation point on the idea that while the show ends, the story does not.

It should be noted that Anna Kendrick was part of the in the forest movie castand she played Cinderella. Therefore, she is very familiar with this line and its meaning. So I love that he also used it as a way to end his movie, because it’s incredibly effective.

I find it scary and brilliant woman of the hour ended on this note, especially considering what happened to this serial killer after the runaway teen escaped from him.

After hearing the fugitive Amy gasp, text appears on the screen stating what happened to all the people after the events of the film. It includes the fact that “a teenage runaway escaped from Rodney Alcalá by asking him to keep the encounter a secret,” which is what Amy did in the movie. However, the following information is revealed below about what happened to the serial killer after he was arrested:

While awaiting trial, he was released on bail. Once released, he murdered a 21-year-old woman and a 12-year-old girl. Alcalá was arrested again in 1979. Only then did authorities begin to discover the extent of his crimes. For more than a decade, survivors and other private citizens had reported Alcalá to authorities without consequences. He was eventually found guilty of the murder of seven women and girls. Some authorities estimate the real number of victims to be 130.

After that, the credits explain that the fugitive appeared in court 31 years after Alcalá went to prison to testify against him. As Kendrick said, she was safe in the film’s final scene, but her story didn’t end there (as she testified many years later) and the trauma didn’t go away.

woman of the hour is critically acclaimed for Kendrick’s vision and the way he handles this chilling, terrifying and vulnerable story. While making this film about a killer who hurt so many women, he also made the film a fantastic commentary on the fear that women feel every day and the terror and mistreatment that comes with institutionalized misogyny and sexism.

While the stories of Rodney’s victims go beyond this film, hence the final sigh, the larger issues and themes presented in it do as well. That’s a big reason why woman of the hour It has haunted me for weeks; I also think that’s why it’s so brilliant.
