Iowa authorities issued an Amber Alert on Tuesday afternoon, January 30, 2024, searching for Bryson Lewis Duong, 7, right and center. He was found with 34-year-old Brandon Duong.

Duong’s sentencing comes after a AMBER Alert led officers on a high-speed chase and three-hour standoff near Remsen, Iowa, that took place earlier this year.

On Tuesday, January 30, Brandon Duong was accused of kidnapping his 7-year-old son, Bryson Duong, from Greene County Elementary School around 12:45 p.m. The AMBER Alert was issued for Bryson around 4:40 p.m

The custody order that Brandon pleaded guilty to violating was filed in December 2023. As previously reported, this custody order restricted Duong from having custody of his son.

Plymouth County deputies said authorities discovered Duong was possibly armed during the chase. During the confrontation, Duong allegedly made his son on his shoulder while the law enforcement had their weapons in their hands.

After three hours, Duong surrendered and was booked into the Greene County Jail. He was charged with second-degree kidnapping and violating a custody order.

In February, Duong pleaded not guilty to second-degree kidnapping. In March, a judge ruled that Duong was competent to be tried after a psychiatric evaluation was performed.
