Lee Carsley looks to Kane to save England job prospects | Football | Sport

Lee Carsley has made an urgent appeal to England captain Harry Kane, who is now fit and ready for action. Carsley confirms that Kane is prepared to face Finland after two days of full training, with England desperate for a win to turn around their fortunes in the Nations League.

Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has returned to his club for treatment on a hamstring injury that left him sidelined in Thursday night’s catastrophic defeat to Greece at Wembley.

Carsley’s own prospects of securing the job could hinge on England topping the Nations League group, which would make the match against Finland a must-win match.

Interim England boss Carsley experimented with Jude Bellingham in the false nine role but admits record goalscorer Kane has proven to be ‘irreplaceable’ over the years.

Carsley also confirmed that Jack Grealish is fit after missing the match against Greece, saying: “They both trained on Friday, they trained today, so fitness-wise everything is fine.”

When asked what Harry brings to the team, Carsley said: “Having seen the games he has played in and the influence he has on the team, he leads by example, a really good captain and a great positive person to be around to have nearby.”

“We always have that when we have something really good going for us: we’re always looking for the next big thing.

“But I think we have to appreciate what we have in front of us with Harry. His goals speak for themselves, what he has done in the past should be hugely respected and I think he still has a lot of games and goals left in him.” hopefully.”

Asked whether Kane, who boasts a record 68 goals in 100 caps, remains indispensable, Carsley said: “He has proven that in the past with the impact he has had. His goalscoring record for England, Bayern and Tottenham is brilliant.” and something we should really appreciate.”

Carsley also revealed that Saka hopes to be ready for Arsenal’s upcoming clash with Bournemouth on Saturday, despite his early departure from the Greek match at Wembley.

The England medical team were optimistic that Saka could have been fit for the match in Finland, but after playing just three days earlier they decided not to risk his fitness, meaning he did not travel to Finland with the rest of the squad traveled away.

Carsley further commented: “Bukayo would have been close, but it would have been unfair to take a risk on him. He is a positive person and I expect him to do well.”
