Registration open for the 15th annual United Way of Marathon County Turkey Trot

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – An annual tradition will return to downtown Wausau on Thanksgiving Day for its 15th year.

The Turkey Trot begins in the 400 block, outside the Grand Theatre. It is a 3.1 mile race. The cost is now $30. 100% of the registration fee will be used to continue feeding the hungry in Marathon County.

“We’ve really taken a stance on fresh food throughout the year. And so we use those funds throughout the year to shop at Red Door Family Farm, Cattail Organics Farm, Nine Patch Farm, and Over East Farms, and they’re all located here in Marathon County, and we buy everything from fresh produce from all they. the path to eggs, and that is the food that we distribute through all of our food pantry systems, and then our mobile pantry operations at United Way,” said Ben Lee, Director of Community Impact, United Way of County Marathon.

The United Way of Marathon County added 200 spots on the trot last year, that’s 2,200 spots now. Organizers tell us that registration is already underway.

“This is our main fundraiser as far as all the food work that United Way of Marathon County does, so it’s very important, it feels good to know that you can come, that you can participate in something with your family. “Have that tradition, and then those dollars will be put to work for the rest of the year and all of 2025, so just by spending 45 minutes with us on Thanksgiving morning, you will be making an impact for the rest of 2025,” he said Leeward.

You can pick up your t-shirt on Wednesday, November 27 from 10 am to 5 pm. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. Thanksgiving morning. That is Thursday, November 28. You better register quick, the registration fee will go up on November 25th, it will be $35 if you wait until then or the morning of the race.
