Kimbal Musk, chef and restaurateur brother of Elon Musk, opens restaurant in Austin

Kimbal Musk, chef and restaurateur brother of Elon Musk, just opened the latest location of the kitchen in Austin’s tallest skyscraper.

“Austin is like a second home to me,” Musk said. “I am thrilled to bring The Kitchen to this vibrant community.”

The Kitchen is a two-story, 8,300-square-foot restaurant located at 400 W. 6th Street in downtown Austin. This American bistro has branches in Denver, Boulder, Chicago and now Austin.

“The Kitchen is a restaurant that I opened in Boulder, Colorado, 20 years ago and now, 20 years later, it’s opening in Austin,” Musk said. “This is the first one we have opened in 10 years. “We have Boulder, Denver and Chicago and our goal is to be a restaurant that works for the local community.”

Chef Michael Bertozzi crafts seasonal American dishes with global influences. The menu includes shared plates that fuse flavors from Peru, Morocco and Japan with local Texas ingredients such as Akaushi beef, Texas-raised quail and Iberian pork, wild-caught seafood and cold-water oysters from the East Coast.

“We do farm-to-table share plates. We decided to do it in Austin because it’s Austin. We worked hard to make sure our steaks were good. Because you have to eat a good steak here, but we are not a steakhouse,” Musk said.

“I think the community here is really special and I’m happy to be a part of it,” Musk said.
