The eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 are closed near Warner Road after troopers attempted to stop a man after crossing the westbound lanes Monday night.

The Department of Public Safety says troopers were called to the area for reports of a pedestrian in the westbound lanes just before 8:30 p.m.

According to officials, troopers attempted to stop the man who then jumped over the median into the eastbound lanes.

Troopers say the man was hit by a vehicle on the east side.

Authorities say “a fight occurred between a police officer and the suspect while the police officer was taking the suspect into custody.”

During this time a separate crash occurred between two cars in which a passenger was killed.

DPS officials say the drivers of both vehicles were also injured.

Eastbound I-10 lanes are closed and it is unknown when the area will reopen.

The investigation is ongoing.
