Addyston Town Council Votes to Disband Police Department

ADDYSTON, Ohio (WXIX) – The Addyston Village Council voted to disband the police department after Ineos announced the closure of the local plant in 2025.

On November 12, after several meetings on this issue, the council voted four to three to disband the Addyston Police Department.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office will take over on Nov. 15, according to Addyston Mayor Lisa Mear.

One council member argued that the contract with the sheriff’s department would save the village money in the first year.

Another member said that despite the council’s efforts, the maintenance of the police department simply has not worked.

Currently, the town only has two police officers on staff; the police chief and a part-time officer, Mear explained.

Addyston Police Chief Jacob Tenbrink said he anticipated this change after Ineos announced the closure of the plant after a chemical leak in Hamilton County in September.

Chief Tenbrink supports the sheriff’s office taking over, he said.
