Plane full of locked-in Lions fans had no time for flight announcements

We live in strange times and there is no greater evidence than the Detroit Lions at 8-1 and looking very similar to the best team in the NFL. Decades of basement living have given rise to a new era in which Lions fans are truly proud of their team, and this pent-up energy has manifested itself in one road trip after another. If Detroit is playing a big road game, then you can be sure that 1/3 of the crowd will be there wearing the blue and silver of Honolulu.

They are also taking over the skies, one flight at a time. At least those arriving at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

Video has emerged of a packed plane watching every moment of the impressive Lions game. Sunday night football comeback against the Houston Texans. Including the biggest one, Jake Bates’ game-winning 52-yard burst, which was nearly ruined by a flight attendant making the final flight announcements.

That person was greeted with an immediate and effective recoil that allowed everyone to see the fundamental kick unfold just as modern science intended: from 30,000 feet in the air.

Those of us who have traveled lately understand all the hassles and challenges that come with flying. Therefore, it takes something special to make the whole experience seem moderately attractive. But a sports bar in the sky with neighbors equally interested in the local team winning with complimentary pretzels? It actually seems like a good time.
