Did Georgia players celebrate Ole Miss’ victory?

Video of Georgia safety Jake Pope after the game against Ole Miss

Ole Miss and its fan base certainly celebrated a bit after the upset win over Georgia, with fans stormed the field and knocked down the goal posts following the game.

However, video also emerged of Pope celebrating on the field after the game.

Whether Pope was celebrating something outside of the outcome of the game or not, it reflected poorly on how Georgia handled its significant loss.

On Monday, Smart was asked about the video of his safety jumping up and down on the field after the loss, explaining that Pope was celebrating seeing his childhood friend again.

“What an idiot,” Smart said. “He’s embarrassed by it, he’s upset by it. He’s obviously a childhood friend of his…he’s just not very smart. But to be honest with you, I don’t have time to waste energy on that. You know what I do?” “I’m saying my focus is on Tennessee, I’m not worried about that.”

Pope also released a statement about the video on Monday, apologizing for how his celebration caused a distraction for his teammates.

“This is not representative of who I am in any way. There is no way I would celebrate a loss on this show and anyone who knows me well knows that,” Pope wrote. “My old family friends approached me unexpectedly after the game when I was trying to get off the field to safety and they were very excited to see me after the game.”

Carson Beck smiling on the sidelines during loss to Ole Miss

Pope wasn’t the only Georgia player to receive criticism for how he handled Saturday’s loss.

With the clock winding down in the fourth quarter against Ole Miss, Beck was seen smiling on the sidelines alongside teammate Jaden Rashada.

Again, fans were upset that Beck wasn’t at all concerned about the Bulldogs’ second loss of the season. However, Beck’s mother, Tracy, added context to the situation via Facebook, saying that Rashada is known for cheering up his teammates.

“(Rashada) is one of Carson’s true best friends who he loves like a (brother) and at a time when I’m sure Carson was feeling this great loss, Jaden could make him smile and laugh,” the post read. post by Tracy Beck. “What I don’t like is that the media immediately took this as if Carson didn’t care about losing and was laughing at the loss.”
