A man was killed and two people were injured in a shooting in London.

No arrests have been made for what one police chief called a “senseless act of violence.”

The Metropolitan Police were called to Wells Park Road in Sydenham, in the south of the city, at 10.10am on Sunday.

Officers and paramedics found a man with gunshot wounds, who died at the scene.

A woman was also found with gunshot wounds to her legs. She was taken to the hospital and police said her condition is not life-threatening.

A third person later went to the hospital with what were believed to be gunshot wounds. Police are awaiting an update on his condition.

Commander Peter Stevens said: “I know people will be shocked by this senseless act of violence, especially on a Sunday morning in a residential area. I share their concerns and can assure the local community that the Met’s response, together with our partners, it has been fast.

“We are determined to safeguard the community, get to the bottom of what happened here and bring those responsible to justice.

“You will see a significant number of additional officers in the area, including forensic experts. Police cordons are likely to remain in place for some time so they can carry out their vital work.”
