Deadline to mail ballots in Arizona arrives

PHOENIX (AZ Family) — If you’ve been saving your ballot, now is the time to submit it.

Tuesday is the last day Arizona voters can mail in their ballots to be counted in next week’s general election. Mailing it today will ensure it arrives at the county recorder’s office by 7 pm on November 5.

This deadline only applies to mail-in ballots. Voters can still drop off their ballots at secure voting drop box locations from now until 7 pm on Election Day.

If you’ve changed your mind about early voting, Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer said that’s not a problem. You can still go to a polling place on November 5 and cast your vote, and you don’t need to bring your early ballot.

But keep in mind, he said, this year’s vote is long and the voting process could take some time.

“Voting is huge, and the answer to that is that the board of supervisors has opened more polling places, and at each polling place they have more registration places, more booths for voters, but the point still stands, the voters are going to take longer on average because there are 79 contests on average,” Richer said.

Richer said his office has already seen more than 1 million voters participate in this year’s election, representing more than half of all registered voters in the county.
