Irishman suspected of killing American nurse arrested in Hungary

Officers said Michalski was killed during an “intimate encounter” with the suspect, but did not provide further details.

They were able to establish that the couple met at a nightclub, danced together and then traveled to the man’s rented apartment.

He was arrested there on Thursday night and is being held in custody.

After being questioned, the suspect showed detectives where he had disposed of Ms. Michalski’s body. the police statement, external saying.

He added that the man had placed the nurse’s body in a closet while he cleaned his apartment – in an attempt to “remove traces” of the alleged murder – before driving into the woods.

Friends reported Mrs. Michalski missing because she was unable to return to her accommodation.

During the course of their investigation, police said they discovered evidence that “gave rise to suspicion of murder.”

Following Ms Michalski’s disappearance, the man conducted a series of online searches, including “what does a dead body smell like after it decomposes?”, “how do police handle missing persons cases?” and “eliminate the smell of rotting meat.”

He also allegedly investigated whether pigs eat carcasses and the appearance of wild boars along Lake Balaton, a body of water near Szigliget.

In images published by the Hungarian police, a handcuffed man can be seen leading officers through the forest. Sniffer dogs and forensic investigators are present.

A Facebook group, called Find Mackenzie Michalski, says the 31-year-old used to be called Kenzie.

On Saturday, his friends held a candlelight vigil near the U.S. Embassy in Budapest.
