Australia national team president George Bailey believes the team is well balanced and predicts McSweeney will perform well if he makes his debut.

“Nathan has shown the attributes that we believe will prepare him well for Test cricket along with a strong recent record in domestic cricket,” Bailey said.

“His performances in South Australia and Australia weighed in his favor and support our view that he is ready for the opportunity at Test level.

“Likewise, Josh has had great contact in the Sheffield Shield competition and deserves his place in his first Test team.

“Scott has been a top-notch performer when given the opportunity at Test level and continues to be a valuable member of the team.

“The team is balanced and provides Andrew and Pat with the options they need for what makes for a compelling series.”
