Western Pennsylvania man convicted of fatal New Year’s Eve shooting, prosecutor says

Westmoreland County authorities say a Belle Vernon man has been convicted in the shooting death of a 59-year-old woman on New Year’s Eve 2022.

Prosecutors say Anthony Hairston, now 29, appeared in court last week to stand trial for the road rage murder of Holly Vadella.

Investigators say that on New Year’s Eve 2022, Hairston was allegedly traveling to a local bar when he “became agitated” by the way Vadella was driving.

Prosecutors say several witnesses testified that Hairston fired two bullets into her vehicle as it drove past her, causing her death.

On Friday, a Westmoreland County jury found Hairston guilty of third-degree murder and tampering with evidence.

“From the beginning, this incident was a senseless and unprovoked act of violence. I hope this verdict offers some peace to Holly Vadella’s family. “I thank the jurors for their time and consideration in this case,” said District Attorney Ziccarelli.

Hairston is scheduled to be sentenced in the coming months.
