If increasingly competitive competitions are added, days of waiting are added to obtain a definitive result. Maricopa County estimated the vote count would take about 10 more days before all ballots are counted. Arizona, with 11 electoral votes, has been mixed at least in the last two elections.

Why is there a delay in counting votes?

US media outlets said it could take a few days for the final votes in these two states to be counted. In Arizona, most voters cast their ballots by mail and the recount often takes days. State election officials said full tabulation could take 10 to 13 days.

The New York Times said most voters cast their ballots by mail in Arizona. Officials in Maricopa County, which is the state’s largest, said before the election that full tabulation could take more than a week, he said.

Looking closer, also in 2020, nearly 90 percent of voters in Arizona cast their ballots early and by mail. While officials can begin processing and tabulating mail-in ballots upon receipt, results cannot be released until one hour after voting closes. And any mail-in ballots received on Election Day cannot be processed until the polls have closed. This causes a delay in the counting of votes and may result in a large number of votes being counted later.

Donald Trump was elected president, capping a remarkable comeback four years after being ousted from the White House and ushering in a new American leadership that is likely to test democratic institutions at home and relations abroad.

Trump, 78, won back the White House on Wednesday by securing more than the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency, Edison Research projected, after a campaign of dark rhetoric that deepened polarization in the country.
