David Beckham He knows a thing or two about being sexy.

In fact, the soccer pro, 49, is so undeniably handsome that he was named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive 2015and while the world awaits news of who will take home this year’s title, Beckham offered some sage advice while on Stella Artois Let’s Do Dinner in New York City.

“Don’t get carried away! Keep your feet on the ground because you only get it once,” he tells PEOPLE with a laugh before asking, “I think you only get it once. Can you get it more than once?” .

Although rare, you can actually be crowned the sexiest man alive twice. Ask people like Brad Pitt and George Clooney. (and even Richard Gerewho first earned the title of “Sexiest Couple” in 1993 alongside his then-girlfriend Cindy Crawford before landing SMA alone in 1999).

In 2015, Beckham told PEOPLE that landing the Sexiest Man crown on his 30th birthday was “a huge honor.” “I’m very happy to accept,” he said.

Still, Beckham remained as modest as ever, admitting at the time that “I never feel like an attractive, sexy person,” he said. “I mean, I like to wear nice clothes and nice suits and look and feel good, but I never think of myself that way.”

Another former sexiest man alive was as modest as Beckham when asked for your advice for this year’s winner.

“I don’t think I’m the right person to ask for that kind of advice!” Paul Rudd told PEOPLE at his recent All-Star bowling event. “But I can’t wait to see who it is.”

Rudd was crowned The sexiest man in the world in 2021, and told PEOPLE at the time that he “was aware enough to know that when people found out I was being cast for this, they would say, ‘That?’ This is not false humility. “There are a lot of people who should understand this before me.”

Still, Rudd, 55, can’t wait to see which man will soon join him (and Beckham) in PEOPLE’s room of handsome hunks.

“I’m really excited to stand back and just enjoy the sexiness of it,” he said.

And, nine years into Beckham’s reign as sexiest man, the father of four can’t help but reflect on how the definition of what is sexy has evolved over time.

“It does change. The definition of sexy? I guess it’s what each individual thinks, really,” he says. “That’s the good thing about a human being. They have different likes and dislikes.”

PEOPLE’s 2024 Sexiest Man Alive will be revealed on November 12.
