Man banned from entering Singapore among five arrested in forested area, Latest Singapore News

A man banned from entering Singapore was arrested in Bukit Batok on November 9, along with four other men who had entered the country illegally.

Police said on Nov. 9 they had detained a 23-year-old man for being a prohibited immigrant, while the other four, aged between 27 and 54, were found without valid passes or travel documents.

Under the Immigration Law, a prohibited immigrant is someone who cannot demonstrate his or her ability to support himself or suffers from a contagious or infectious disease, among others. They should not enter Singapore unless they are provided with a special pass.

The five men were captured after a police operation in the forested area near the Bukit Batok Nature Park that began around 12:25 a.m., police said.

At approximately 9am on November 9, five tactical vehicles from the police’s Special Operations Command were seen parked along a road near the park while officers patrolled the area.

Investigations are ongoing.
