2 seriously injured after truck causes rear-end collision and rollover on I-35

LATHROP, Mo. (KCTV) – Two people suffered life-threatening injuries after a truck crashed into the back of a pickup truck and another truck, causing a rollover collision on I-35 east of Lathrop.

He Missouri State Highway Patrol indicates that around 10:15 a.m. on Friday, November 8, emergency crews were called to the area of ​​I-35 and Missouri Highway 116, east of Lathrop, for reports of a 3-vehicle collision.

When first responders arrived, they said they found a 2024 Volvo truck, a 2025 Freightliner Cascadia and a 1999 Ford F-250 heading north on the interstate.

Investigators noted that the driver of the Freightliner, 62, of Reinbeck, Iowa, and the driver of the Lathrop pickup truck, 69, slowed down to move through traffic. Meanwhile, the driver of the Volvo truck, 47, of Geneva, Illinois, crashed into the back of the truck.

State troopers said the impact caused the pickup truck to veer off the right side of the interstate, skid to one side and roll over once. The Volvo truck then collided with the towed unit of the Freightliner.

First responders said the driver of the pickup truck and his passenger, a 59-year-old Lathrop woman, were taken to Liberty Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Volvo truck was also taken to Liberty Hospital but with suspicions of minor injuries.

Law enforcement officials noted that the driver of the Freightliner escaped the accident uninjured. Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt at the time.

Investigators also said both the Volvo truck and the Ford pickup truck were totaled in the crash, while the Freightliner suffered minor damage. No further information has been released.
