Clermont County father subjected his children to ‘pattern of abuse’ before girl’s death

A Clermont County Father She called 911 to report that her young daughter had been seriously injured in an accident.. However, prosecutors say those injuries were not due to an accident but rather a pattern of escalating violence that resulted in the girl’s death.

Andrew Kammerer, 33, made his first appearance Friday in Clermont County Court of Common Pleas and pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and child endangerment. He faces a possible sentence of life in prison without parole if convicted.

Prosecutors said Kammerer was the sole caregiver for 4-month-old Evelyn Kammerer and her twin sister at the time the injuries were inflicted on the child.

Goshen Township Fire Department personnel were dispatched Monday morning to the 1500 block of East Meadowbrook Drive for a report of an infant experiencing breathing problems after a fall, police said.

Evelyn was taken to the hospital and died more than 12 hours later at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, where she was placed on life support.

Kammerer told investigators that he was changing the girl’s diaper when she fell off a changing table and that he performed CPR on the girl until first aid arrived, police wrote in a criminal complaint.

However, the injuries found during the autopsy were “inconsistent with an accidental fall,” the document states.

The autopsy showed that Evelyn had been “subjected to an extraordinarily violent attack,” said Clermont County Deputy Prosecutor Lara Baron-Allen, adding that the girl’s twin sister also had wounds that had begun to heal.

Prosecutors said Kammerer told police and medical staff, “I don’t know my own strength.”

“This was not a single incident,” Baron-Allen said in court. “This was a pattern of abuse perpetrated by the defendant against two infants.”

William Rapp, Kammerer’s attorney, said in court that while the injuries Evelyn suffered are not consistent with an accident, it is still possible that the girl’s death was accidental.

There were no witnesses or video footage capturing what happened to the girl, just a 911 call from Kammerer requesting medical assistance for her daughter, Rapp said.

Rapp added that the charges are based largely on the extent of the injuries and rule out any other possible suspects or scenarios. He declined to comment further on the case when approached by The Enquirer on Friday morning.

Judge Victor Haddad set Kammerer’s bail at $5 million. He is being held in the Clermont County Jail awaiting trial.
