    ‘Big consequence’: Malaysia invites China to join ASEAN summit with Gulf bloc

    Malaysia has invited Porcelain join a summit with Arab and Southeast Asian states next year, aiming to expand ASEANChina’s economic partners group as it prepares to take over the bloc’s presidency in 2025.
    Speaking at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai on Tuesday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim He said China’s inclusion in the annual summit between Asean and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) next year would be “of great consequence for the trajectory of regional growth.”

    Anwar emphasized that this tripartite cooperation would help reduce the economic gap between the developed nations of the East and the West.

    “As ASEAN chair next year, Malaysia aims to enhance regional cooperation and an inclusive and rules-based regional framework,” he said.

    Global supply chains have been disrupted by a US-led trade war against China since 2018, aimed at addressing what the US and its allies say are unfair trade practices by the Asian giant.
