NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Metropolitan Council passed a resolution to accept a grant to process rape kits faster.

The U.S. Department of Justice’s DNA Capacity Enhancement Program for Backlog Reduction (CEBR) grant will provide $250,000 to help pay for the outsourcing of sexual assault kits to private providers.

A statewide backlog came to light two years ago when Eliza Fletcher was attacked and killed in Memphis.

Since then, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has ramped up testing and outsourcing.

This process would also help close cases faster.
