Dylan Mitchell Sprague

MARIETTA — A man was arrested this week for allegedly assaulting a woman at Mound Cemetery.

Dylan Mitchell Sprague, 22, last known address in Marietta, was arrested Monday for his role in an alleged assault at Mound Cemetery, according to Marietta Police Capt. Aaron Nedeff.

Sprague was charged with strangulation, felony assault, aggravated menacing, obstruction of official business, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia and was transported to the Washington County Jail, according to a news release from Marietta police.

No information was available on whether the charges are felonies or misdemeanors.

Sprague’s arrest stems from a disturbance Marietta police responded to at Mound Cemetery at approximately 12:47 a.m. Monday, according to the release. Police found a woman sitting next to a tree with blood coming from her mouth and other injuries.

The woman was 22 years old and her last known address was Belpre, according to Nedeff. He said the disturbance involved Sprague and the woman, who are “a young homeless couple” who were housed in the cemetery and “I got into a fight.”

“(Sprague) beat her pretty well,” Nedeff said.

Sprague had left the scene, Nedeff said, and according to the statement police found him at approximately 4 a.m. in East Muskingum Park and a foot chase began.

“(The officers) chased him” Nedeff said.

The woman’s injuries were serious enough for Sprague to be charged with felonious assault, according to Nedeff, but they are not life-threatening. He said she was transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital.

The case against Sprague was filed in Marietta Municipal Court on Monday and was arraigned at 8 a.m. Monday, according to court records. He remained in prison as of Wednesday afternoon.

Sprague has a preliminary hearing and a hearing to modify a temporary protective order scheduled for 1 p.m. Nov. 13 in municipal court, according to court records.
