Emergency services were called to Kingsley Road, Maidstone, after a tree caught fire due to a bonfire.

Emergency services were called to a residential street after a bonfire caused a tree to catch fire.

The incident occurred around 4:20 p.m. on November 5.

Two fire trucks were sent to the road and crews used planes to extinguish the flames, which had also spread to a nearby shed and fence panels.

The cause is believed to be accidental. It is suspected that a bonfire lost control and spread quickly to the tree.

By around 5pm, emergency services had withdrawn and reported no injuries from the incident.

Thick, dark smoke could be seen from Asda Living, next to the river on St Peter’s Street, approximately 1 mile away.

A nearby resident said: “It was so lucky the fire brigade arrived within minutes. I hope everyone is well.

“To be honest, it was really scary to see the fire on top of the houses.”

Over the past few days, families across the county have celebrated Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night.

Kent Fire and Rescue previously posted a warning on its Facebook page in the lead-up to the event.

It read: “Have fun this Bonfire Night, but stay safe.

“We recommend going to a professional bonfire and fireworks event, rather than lighting your own in the backyard.

“But if you decide to have a screen at home, be responsible and keep safety in mind.

“Remember to keep them away from trees and properties and stay away.”
