Monroe Co. woman arrested for stabbing her husband

Monroe County sheriff’s deputies arrested a woman Thursday for allegedly stabbing her husband in Bedford Township.

Dispatchers received an initial call around 2:20 a.m. from a man requesting deputies to respond, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The caller did not answer and hung up at first, but after several additional calls told operators that he had been stabbed, the statement said.

Officers found the man with a knife wound to his hand at the scene in the 6800 block of South Telegraph Road, authorities said.

Investigators believe the man’s 37-year-old wife stabbed him after the couple had a disagreement, according to the statement.

Deputies arrested the woman and sent her to the Monroe County Jail.

Officials are withholding the woman’s name pending her formal arraignment in Monroe County First District Court for assault with intent to cause great bodily harm, less than murder, according to the release.

“We want to commend the Monroe County Central Dispatch staff for being diligent and not simply accepting the fact that the victim refused to cooperate in dispatching the appropriate services to resolve the situation and provide medical care,” MCSO stated in the statement.

MCSO’s Uniformed Services Division is still investigating the case. Officials ask that anyone with information about the incident call (734) 240-7743.

The incident was reported days after Redford Township police arrested a suspect in a fatal domestic shooting of a man.

Warren police too arrested another woman accused of shooting her boyfriend to death that day.

Law enforcement agencies across the state reported 64,545 incidents of domestic violence in 2022, the most recent year for which data is available through the Michigan Crime and Incident Reporting program.

Of the 66,490 victims reported that year, nearly 71% were women, according to a 2022 Annual Michigan Crime Report. Agencies also reported that 71.1% of offenders were men.

Of the 69,765 injury victims reported that year, 101 were fatal, according to the report.
