The driver of a municipal garbage truck was seriously injured in Rome after crashing into the wall of an apartment block, seriously injuring a woman in her home.

The incident occurred at around 4.30am on Thursday on Via Vitorchiano in the Due Ponti area of ​​northern Rome after the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

The impact of the collision caused the perimeter wall inside the house to collapse, injuring the occupant, and the truck landed in a patio several meters below.

Firefighters arrived at the scene within minutes, rescued the woman from the rubble and pulled the driver out of the truck. Both were rushed to the hospital in serious condition.

Authorities were working Thursday morning to remove the vehicle and make the area safe, while traffic police open an investigation into the incident.

According to media reports, two apartments have been declared uninhabitable as a result of the accident.
