CSRA Counties Affected by Helene May Receive SNAP Assistance

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Agencies have announced counties eligible to receive assistance from the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for those affected by Helene.

People in Georgia affected by Helene can apply to receive a one-time benefit to help purchase food through the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the Georgia Department of Human Services announced.

The next phase in Georgia will run from Thursday, November 7 through November 14 (excluding November 10 and 11) for the following counties: Burke, Columbia, Glascock, Jefferson, Jenkins, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Screven, Taliaferro, Warren. and Washington.

The final phase will run Monday, Nov. 18-23 for Emanuel County.

In assistance under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. As of November 1, the US Department of Agriculture approved the following counties for DSNAP as a result of Hurricane Helene: Abbeville, Aiken, Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Cherokee, Chester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Greenville, Greenwood. , Hampton, Jasper, Kershaw, Laurens, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Oconee, Orangeburg, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Spartanburg, Union and York.

DSNAP will be implemented in two phases. Residents are only eligible for pre-registration and telephone interviews during the assigned period.

The first phase includes the following counties: Aiken, Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Cherokee, Hampton, Laurens, McCormick, Saluda, Spartanburg, Union and York.

Starting Monday, November 11, residents of those counties will be able to pre-register for DSNAP online.

Those who pre-register will receive instructions on how to complete their eligibility interview over the phone and, if approved, the applicant will be mailed their EBT card.

Applicants are encouraged to provide as much information as possible on the online pre-registration form. If you do not provide your county of residence, date of birth, current contact information, and a photo of your South Carolina driver’s license/ID card, you may have to wait to apply in person when the event is scheduled.
