Wisconsin woman who fled after hitting jogger arrested, victim remains in serious condition

MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – A woman who was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run crash in southern Wisconsin that seriously injured an 18-year-old jogger was arrested in Verona following an investigation.

According to the Madison Police DepartmentKarla Bomkamp, ​​59, of Verona, was arrested Monday, Nov. 4, nearly a week after her alleged involvement in a hit-and-run crash in Madison that hospitalized an 18-year-old man.

Officers say the initial crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. on October 29 at the intersection of John Nolen Drive and North Shore Drive. The investigation revealed that the man was out jogging and was in the crosswalk on John Nolen Drive, and had the ‘walk signal’ when he was struck.

The 18-year-old remains in hospital in serious condition.

Bomkamp reportedly had a red light and allegedly drove away from the scene and then abandoned his vehicle in traffic near Monona Terrace.

After her arrest, Bomkamp was taken to the Dane County Jail and accused of hit and run – Involves great bodily harm, an E felony. Officers also cited a passenger in the vehicle.
