The director called the final chapter “beautiful, surprising, unexpected and fascinating,” in part because it is the end of an era. (Voros noted that he does not know if there will be a season 6 after rumors surfaced that Reilly and Cole Hauser I could lead more episodes.)

“You’re dealing with a cast of actors who know their characters as well as Taylor does, and who have dedicated their entire working lives to constructing these roles,” Voros gushed. “This year’s performances are simply outstanding.”

The cast’s ability to thrive without prying eyes was made possible by Voros’ determination to keep everything separate. That included treating each scene as a “closed scenario.”

“We had keywords for things. There were scenes where we had a lot of extras where we filmed a different version of the scene,” Voros recalled. “We’re very fortunate to have so many great background artists in the show and really make the world real for us, but you don’t want 150 people in an arena to go home and tell their families what they did that day. “

“It was never out of fear that someone in the family would not protect the story. Rather, if you know something, you could accidentally mention it,” the filmmaker explained. “We were just protecting the cast and crew from even having that information, so we didn’t have to worry about whether they were keeping some things secret or not.”

“I think saying more than that could compromise all the work needed to write the scripts!” Voros laughed. “But I think the reason people wonder, ‘It is, right?’ Where is it and where is it not? It is because he is the patriarch and his presence is an essential component of the story. “John Dutton is still central.”

And he added: “The heart of this season is family. Taylor’s writings always touch on those themes. … I think in many ways this season comes full circle. “It all comes back to the family that started it all.”
