LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office reports that a phone scam has resurfaced in the area.

Authorities said scammers call citizens, specifically seniors. They are reportedly telling victims of the scam that their children, grandchildren, or other family members are in some type of danger that requires money to be sent to them immediately.

In one case in Laurel County, the caller said they needed $1,500.

According to sheriff’s office officials, these scammers can often program familiar phone numbers into their calls.

Those in the area are advised to exercise caution with these types of calls.
