Authorities have charged a teenager in a shooting that seriously injured a 15-year-old girl at a home in Bergen County.

The 16-year-old suspect was arrested Tuesday at the scene of the shooting. He is charged with juvenile delinquency offenses of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and possession of a firearm by a minor, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Ridgefield Park Police responded to a call at 7:26 p.m. Tuesday reporting that a person was bleeding inside a private residence. When officers arrived, they found the teen, suffering from a gunshot wound to the back, authorities said.

The boy is accused of using a gun to fire a single shot into the girl’s back inside the home, prosecutors said. The victim is still in the hospital and is in critical condition, authorities said.

The suspect is in custody at the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center pending family court proceedings.
