“The worst after the result of the US elections”

The 2025 British and Irish jersey has divided opinion among fans after the visiting team and Canterbury unveiled the new jersey on Thursday.

The kit will set fans back around £80 for the replica with the new, deeper red jersey and new Howden sponsors.

Lions jersey reveals are usually highly anticipated, but this year many fans were left disappointed by what Canterbury and the touring team have produced. However, some were satisfied with the design.

Here are our picks for some of the best responses on social media.

Reaction to the new British and Irish Lions jersey

One of the main criticisms of the shirt is its resemblance to vintage curtains, a sentiment shared by several fans online.

“I’m glad you managed to find a use for my grandmother’s old curtains,” reads the comment on the official site. lions‘Instagram page.

While an X user said they already placed an XXL order with a picture of red curtains attached.

New British and Irish Lions jersey revealed with ‘updated design’ and ‘deeper shade of red’

Former Fiji captain Nemani Nadolo was one of those who liked the look of the new jersey.

“I just saw the new British Lions shirt… Holy shit, just when I thought wallaby The shirt was epic… Both shirts are (fire emoji),” he wrote on X.

One fan agreed and wrote “Yes, that’s very nice by the way”, but as always there were those who didn’t like the sponsors logo on the front of the kit.

“Very nice indeed… is there any chance I can get one without the sponsor logo on the front?” added another.

The logo causes a stir

The fact that the Lions logo is not sewn onto the uniform was another major criticism from fans, as many believe it will simply wash off.

“Too much relief makes it look like a rug. Sponsors too dominant. The badge needs to be sewn on, it doesn’t look that cheap and it can’t come off in the wash. Worst Lions jersey in years in my opinion,” one fan wrote.

Another added: “He’s too profit motivated to put an embroidered badge on the replica jersey. Imagine being a player lucky enough to be drafted by the Lions and having to wear this garbage. I hope you sell everything at that price.”

Comments along the same lines followed: “Not even a properly embroidered badge? It looks really poor compared to previous versions with a stratospheric price, unfortunately!

And for some, the launch was profitable: “My God…. Saves me a few quid. A horrible design and a badge that is going to be erased… no thanks.”

Another fan described the shirt as the “second worst thing” they had seen after reports that Donald Trump won the US presidential election.

“Second worst thing I’ve seen today after the US election result,” the post read.

Grok’s opinion

Meanwhile, X’s AI tool Grok provided a humorous article with its funny mode activated.

“The British & Irish Lions just dropped their 2025 tour jersey and wow, it looks like your grandma’s couch from the ’70s,” the parody story read.

“Sponsored by Howden, this shirt is not just rugby gear, it’s an investment in your future health insurance, or perhaps just an excuse for fans to spend an arm and a leg.

“The design has everyone from rugby professionals to wallpaper enthusiasts talking – and not all in a good way. With a hefty price tag for the replica and a shade of red that’s apparently perfect for blending in with the Australian outback or your local furniture store, this shirt has more buzz than a beehive at a barbecue.

“Critics are torn between loving the traditional style and wondering if they are really buying a piece of fabric or a statement against modern fashion.”
